Using the Great Glen Way

All users of the Great Glen Way should be aware that the route is used by a variety of people. Please be alert at all times, give way to other users as required and make sure they are aware of your presence, regardless of whether you are walking, mountain biking or horse riding.

The countryside is a working environment and a single careless act can strain the goodwill of the owners and tenants whose livelihoods are dependent on the land you pass through.

Scottish Canals Toilets

If you are walking or cycling the Great Glen Way and planning to wild camp you may be interested in having access to the toilet and shower facilities along the Caledonian Canal sections of the Way. Access is charged at £10 per person (under 12’s are free) and with that you are loaned a key which you must return at the end of your trip. Please note this is not a deposit scheme, the £10 fee helps Scottish Canals  look after and maintain the facilities on the canal.
Details on facilities available can be found on the Great Glen Canoe Trail website . Although primarily aimed at paddlers there is useful information for all users of the Great Glen Way.
You can pay & collect a key from the Scottish canals Corpach and Inverness offices during office hours. Alternatively you can pay an additional fee to have one sent out to you by calling in advance of your trip on 01463 725500.

If a toilet is not available, make sure you follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and “leave no trace”.
