Longman Waste Material Recovery Facility
We are proposing to build a waste material recovery facility on part of the former landfill site at Longman in Inverness. This consists of a waste transfer station to process material for recycling and to process residual waste. The residual waste will be processed into refuse derived fuel in the form of wrapped bales. These bales will then be transported outwith the Highlands to energy generating facilities which burn the refuse derived fuel under highly regulated conditions to produce heat and electricity.
This facility is part of our overall waste strategy driven by the Biodegradable Municipal Waste Landfill Ban which will come into force on 1 January 2021.
