Highland votes ‘Remain’ in EU referendum

Michelle Morris, ­­­­­Senior Depute Counting Officer for Highland has declared the results of the European Union Referendum 2016 count in Highland.

Highland voters have voted to Remain in the European Union.

  • The total number of ballot papers counted was125,728
  • The total number of votes cast in favour of Remain a member of the European Union was 70,308
  • The total number of votes cast in favour of Leave the European Union was 55,349
  • The number of ballot papers rejected was as follows:
    • No official mark 0
    • Voting for both answers to the question asked 27
    • Writing or mark by which the voter could be identified 2
    • Unmarked or void for uncertainty 42
    • Total rejected papers 71.
