Inverness Castle Viewpoint opened in April 2017 following refurbishment funded by Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal, designed to transform the Highland economy.

Opening to the public with a two-week free ‘Come and try’ promotion attracting 1,500 attendances over the Easter holidays, the visitor attraction has continued to welcome visitors and guests from all over the world.

This week staff at Inverness Castle Viewpoint prepared themselves for their 15,000th visitor and on Tuesday they were delighted to welcome Sarah Allred from San Diego, California who was visiting the viewpoint for the first time along with her husband, Brad Allred.

To celebrate the viewpoint reaching its milestone attendance Sarah Allred was presented with a bouquet of flowers from Lesley Junor, Operations Manager with High Life Highland who is responsible for the operation of the castle attraction.

City of Inverness Provost, Councillor Helen Carmichael said, “Inverness Castle Viewpoint has certainly become an extremely popular visitor attraction to the Highland residents and visitors to the City of Inverness. The view from the top offers a wonderfully different perspective of the City, so it is great to see that so many people have opted to include a visit to the viewpoint since it opened earlier in the year and for the attraction to reach this milestone. Hundreds of tourists are also enjoying the beautiful new landscaped area and viewpoints around the tower itself.”

Both the Scottish and UK Governments have committed to investing up to £188 million over the lifespan of the City Region Deal. The impact of the deal on Inverness and the wider Highland region will be significant in securing the long term economic growth of the region.

To capitalise on the region’s assets and reputation, there is a need to develop high quality tourist attractions, which will increase the number of visitors to the region and encourage tourists to stay longer in the Highlands and increase spend.  Support through the Inverness and Highland City Region Deal for the development of Inverness Castle as a world class visitor attraction will deliver a significant boost to tourism across the region.

The Inverness Castle Viewpoint will remain open to visitors until the end of October. You can tweet pictures of your visit to @InvernessCastle, as many visitors have already done.
