Outdoor play proposal for Ferintosh Primary

logoThe Highland Council is proposing an exciting and unique opportunity for children aged 3-5 at Ferintosh Primary and has invited parents and the community to come along and find out more about plans.

The proposal is to create an outdoor Early Learning and childcare project that would see children spend the majority of their time in the beautiful, rich environment surrounding Ferintosh Primary School where they will have the chance to learn through exploring and investigating the natural world. An indoor learning environment will also be provided at the school.

If supported by parents and the community the project could open in August 2018 offering flexible provision from 8.00am – 6.00pm, Mondays to Fridays staffed by qualified early years practitioners.

Research shows that young children’s access to nature and outdoor play has a positive impact on their self-esteem, physical health and development of language and numeracy skills in addition to other benefits.

Chair of the Council’s People’s Committee, Councillor Alasdair Christie said: “Outdoor play offers kids real independence and lots of exciting new ways to learn more about the world they live in. Who of us as children did not enjoy playing outdoors? There are so many adventures to be had from den building, tree climbing to bug hunting and having a go at cooking on a campfire.

“Research shows that by getting kids active in their early years they are more likely to adopt an active lifestyle later in life. Ferintosh has the ideal natural environment to provide high quality outdoor play and learning opportunities so I encourage parents and other members of the local community to come along to the information sessions to find out more about the project.”

An information session will be held for interested parents at Ferintosh Primary School on Monday 13th Nov at 2pm and then again at 6pm.
