Winter Wonderland 2017

posterThe Highland Council has announced details of this year’s Winter Wonderland event which will take place in Whin Park this weekend. (Friday 15th, Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th December 2017). 

Traditionally one of the highlights of the year for youngsters from all around Inverness and the surrounding area; this year’s show looks set to feature perfect weather conditions for Santa’s Reindeer who will be in attendance each evening.

 As usual the park will be transformed on one of the darkest weekends of the year with the installation of several giant illuminated features by the Council’s Lighting Department; and Inverness based Limelight Event Services will be installing a constantly changing light show to bring the park’s numerous trees to life. As well as having the opportunity to enjoy the wide range of funfair and playground rides on offer; youngsters will also get the chance to take Selfies with  Santa and a number of his special guests who will be appearing in the park at various times throughout the event. 

On Friday Winter Wonderland will start at 6pm and finish at 9pm.On Saturday and Sunday Wonderland will be open between 4pm and 7pm. 

Inverness Winter Festival Working Group Member Councillor Ian Brown said: "This event probably generates more wonderful family photographs that any other of the events in our programme and it is always a pleasure to see the excitement on the faces of the little ones as they discover all the surprises that we have in store for them. The event been especially designed for the smaller members of our community and we are delighted that our Winter Wonderland event seem to be growing in popularity with every passing year.

"We would ask everybody to wrap up as warmly as possible, make sure that they pack their cameras, and spread the word that we want everybody to come and be part of what is sure to be a wonderful experience for children of all ages.”

The Winter Wonderland is sponsored by the Inverness Common Good Fund as part of the Inverness Winter Festival programme and admission is free.  

Drivers are asked to note that temporary traffic restrictions will be in operation between 17.00 hours and 22.00 hours on Friday 15 December, and between 15:00 hours and 20:00 hours on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th December 2017.The closures will affect vehicular traffic and alternative routes for vehicles will be available using Bught Road (Part), Bught Drive, Bught Avenue, Glenurquhart Road, Bishop’s Road, Ness Walk (Part), Ballifeary Lane and Ballifeary Road. 

Dog owners are reminded that Whin Park is a designated Dog Free Zone and that once again no pets will be admitted to the site.
