‘Positive outcome’ for Bishop Eden’s Primary School report

The Chair of The Highland Council’s Care, Learning and Housing Committee has congratulated Bishop Eden’s Primary School in Inverness on their latest inspection report by Education Scotland.

Cllr Andrew Baxter said: “I would like to extend my congratulations to the Head Teacher Beth Rodgers and her staff and all the pupils as well as the whole school community on what is a very positive outcome for them all.”

Bishop Eden’s Primary School’s inspection was judged as having key strengths in the following areas:

• Children’s attainment in English language and literacy and in mathematics and numeracy is now improving.
• Children’s progress is now tracked and monitored well.
• Significant progress has been made in reading as a result of a ‘back to basics’ approach put in place by the headteacher.
• Staff are leading improved learning activities using a better range of classroom resources.
• Writing standards across the school are now showing improvement with children enjoying more opportunities to develop their use of vocabulary.
• The school has made positive progress in learning and teaching. Children continue to be more engaged in their learning.

The report also commended that:  “The headteacher is well respected by staff, parents and children as a very hard working, strong leader. The positive relationships between staff and children were evident throughout the school and behaviour was of a high standard and that the school has placed wellbeing and nurture at the heart of its work.”

The report added: “The school has made positive progress in the development of the curriculum. The curriculum rationale captures very well the unique context of the school, outlining clear links with Inverness Cathedral and having a focus on the core areas of literacy and numeracy. The curriculum benefits from strong local community partnership work which is developing skills for life and work.”

Areas in which the school was encouraged further included: “Develop their partnerships with parents and families more to support their children’s learning further. Continue to develop the curriculum to enable children to make further progress across all subject areas; and continue with their plans to develop outdoor learning further.”

Sharon McPhee, Chair of the Parent Council said:

“The parents of Bishop Eden’s Primary are delighted with the report and extremely proud of all our staff, who have worked so hard to improve our wonderful school. Our children love going to school and have a bright future ahead.”

Head Teacher Beth Rodgers said:

“I am very proud of everything we have achieved at Bishop Eden’s Primary, working hard as a whole school community with the parents, cathedral and our many partners.

“We are a committed and passionate team, dedicated to giving our pupils a safe, nurturing environment, in which they are free to express themselves and be the best they can be.  This forms the basis of everything we do, with wellbeing very much at the heart of our school and I am so delighted this has been reflected in this report.”
