Highland Council winter road condition report for Wednesday 6 February 2019

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports by The Highland Council’s Community Services for Wednesday 6 February 2019 are as follows:

Caithness and North Sutherland: Posted 08:41
A mix of ice, frost and damp roads. All routes treatment ongoing. No known issues.

South Sutherland: Posted 09:39
There is a significant difference this morning between air and road temperatures. Ice is affecting all routes with extreme conditions locally between Strathy and Strathrory on the B9176 Struie road, the A836 Bonar Bridge to Invershin and B864 Achany Glen.

Ross and Cromarty: Posted 07:12
Reports of Black Ice across majority of East Ross and Mid Ross routes this morning making for difficult driving conditions. All East routes are being treated this morning. West routes are wet but mostly with positive temperatures with no reported issues. A number of vehicles are reported off road and have been reported to police. Overnight an Artic lorry was stuck on B9176 at Newbridge in Ardross due to ice. The issue was resolved at 3:30am.

Nairn: Posted 09:32
Cold and frosty morning on the higher routes. There is widespread ice and black ice across area. All routes being treated.

Badenoch and Strathspey: Posted 08:53
Frost, ice and hard packed snow widespread across area. Roads are being treated with salt as necessary.

Skye and Lochalsh: Posted 08:14
Positive road surface temperatures across area this morning. Some hail showers but no problems to report.

Inverness: posted 08:13
Roads very icy this morning. All gritting routes are being treated.

Lochaber: Posted 07:52
Heavy rain showers overnight and early morning leaving a lot of surface water on all routes. There are positive road surface temperatures on all routes.

School Closures:

Today there are no Highland schools closed due to the winter weather but Fortrose Academy (621 pupils) is closed due to water, heating and power issues.
