Public invited to have their say on how Community Councils are created and governed.

The Highland Council is encouraging members of the public to respond to its public consultation on how Community Councils are created and governed (The Community Council Scheme Review 2018 - 2019).

The Scheme for Community Councils sets out the rules on how Community Councils should operate.  The Council is keen hear views from Community Councils and the wider public on these proposals and seeks further ideas and suggested changes to the Scheme.  It is also an opportunity for the public to suggest changes to the boundaries of Community Councils.

The Council welcomes the feedback it has received already but invites the public to have their say.  The consultation began in March and will run until 31 May 2019.

At the Special Meeting of The Highland Council in January 2019, Members agreed to the Scheme’s review and that draft proposals informed by earlier engagement with Community Councils would be the focus of a public consultation.

Details on the review and how people can respond, can be found on the Council’s website at this link.
