Highland Council winter road condition report for Thursday, 14 January 2021

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Thursday, 14 January 2021 are as follows:

Lochaber

Posted at 08:50. Conditions varied across the area, treatment on going on ‘other’ routes.

Skye and Raasay

Posted at 08:44. Road temperatures above zero throughout the night. No reported hazards this morning other than rain.

Ross & Cromarty East.

Posted at 09:00.  All routes being treated and checked this morning. Primary and secondary routes on lower ground affected by surface water with higher sections having a covering of ice patches. Treatment will extend to other areas ahead of forecasted below-zero temps this evening. No overnight issues reported.

Caithness

Posted at 08:23. Wet this morning in Caithness, no action required, no issues reported.

Inverness

Posted at 06:37. Wet on low ground with snow on high roads this morning. Some areas still have hard packed snow\ice. All routes and footpaths being treated.

Sutherland

Posted at 07:49. Wintry showers throughout the area with slush and deposits of wet snow on higher routes. These routes currently being treated. No known issues.

Nairn

Posted at 07:51. 4cms snow on high level routes, down to rain at low level. High roads being treated as necessary.

Badenoch and Strathspey

Posted at 07:46. Conditions varied across the area - up to 10cms in places - all resources deployed in treating the roads as necessary.

Lochalsh and Ross and Cromarty West

Posted at 07:02. Temperature will come up above freezing on most routes by 09:00. No overnight issues. Treatment ongoing.

The UK Met Office currently has a yellow warning for snow and ice across large parts of the Highlands today. An amber warning for snow covering Kingussie and Aviemore is also in place. Find out more about warnings and advice here https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/
