Highland Council winter road condition report for Thursday, 21 January 2021

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Thursday, 21 January 2021 are as follows:

Lochaber

Posted at 07:46. Two inches of snow at lower level routes this morning away from the West Coast. 3 to 4 inches at higher level routes all priority routes being ploughed and treated. Secondary and other routes will be treated throughout the morning and day as required.

Skye and Raasay  

Posted at 08:33. Wet roads with light sleet showers on high ground. Temperature higher than forecast at approximately zero degrees. Treating primary and secondary routes.

Ross & Cromarty East

Posted at 08:20. Three inches of wet snow on some routes. Some cars stuck at North Kessock first thing, traffic moving okay now. All routes being treated. A combination of rain, sleet and snowmelt will likely cause some minor flooding issues throughout the day. No serious overnight issues.

Caithness

Posted at 07:44. Wet roads this morning. No overnight issues.

Inverness

Posted at 08:28. Two inches of wet snow cover on low roads; 6 inches of snow cover on high roads. Gritters blading and gritting on all routes.

Sutherland

Posted at 08:26. Two inches of snow on some higher routes with slush and rain on the lower routes. All treated accordingly. No overnight issues.

Nairn

Posted at 07:44. 3cms of snow on higher grounds, rain at lower levels. High roads being treated as necessary.

Badenoch and Strathspey

Posted at 07:30. 3-4cms snow across area. Roads being treated as necessary.

Lochalsh and Wester Ross

Posted at 09:00. Heavy snow on highest west routes. C1087 Bealach na Ba closed due to heavy snow. Conditions are being monitored and the road will be reopened as soon as practical. Lower levels routes have patches of ice with snow and hail showers. All routes being treated as required.
