Cllr Bill Lobban

Members at today’s Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee agreed a motion to recognise the and fully support the efforts of Highland Council staff in delivering Council services during the COVID pandemic.

Councillors also recognised the continued work of Highland Council staff to support partner organisation during the outbreak. After providing positive comment about Highland Council staff’s work, members agreed to pass the motion unanimously.

Chair of the Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee, Cllr Bill Lobban said: “Sometimes I get the impression that some people don’t realise the herculean efforts of Highland Council staff, particularly with the bad weather we have experienced here in Badenoch and Strathspey.

“We have had snow and ice since before Christmas. Yet day after day our road crews have been out there since dawn to ensure our routes to work, shops and even vaccination centres are safe.

“We’ve seen snow drifts of about three metres deep at Bridge of Brown and staff have been working night and day to keep our roads clear. The same can be said of our refuse crews who have done a terrific job in the current circumstances. They deserve a medal and should be warmly congratulated.”

Cllr Muriel Cockburn said: “We have to recognise the hundreds of people that ensure the delivery of the services we take for granted.

“These are important parts of our daily life. They are part of our community and we should salute them for going beyond the call of duty on many occasions.”
