Pupils and teacher march through Inverness to mark the 200th anniversary of Central Primary School.

A group of pupils and teachers from Central Primary in Inverness took part in a procession through the centre of Inverness to mark the 200th anniversary of the school on Friday (13 August 2021).

They congregated on the pavement by the River Ness at Queen Street (original location of the school in 1821) and walked up Greig Street and along Kenneth Street before arriving at the school entrance.

Almost all the children on the procession are part of a multi-generational group who have had long links with the school.

The proud youngsters were carrying the school flag as they made their way passed delighted onlookers.

Once they arrived at the school three of the pupils helped plant a commemorative tree to mark the auspicious occasion.

There were then short speeches from Eden Court Theatre, High Life Highland Archive Centre and Highland Council Education.

Former pupils were also invited to attend and share memories of their time at the school.

Head Teacher, Ailsa Fraser, said: “We had a lovely afternoon, and we are thankful to everyone who attended.

“We are looking forward to getting the term started next week and continuing our 15-month long project to celebrate the school’s heritage.
