Avoch Primary School – temporary pause on lets and non-essential activity

A precautionary measure will be taken to temporarily pause all lets and other non-essential activities at Avoch Primary School campus for 2 weeks from Monday 8 November 2021 due to a significant increase of Covid-19 cases within the school community.

Officers will be engaging with local community groups who operate on the school's campus to inform them of the current position and advise on the Council’s approach to help reduce the risk of transmission of the virus in the local community.

Avoch Primary School has a significant outbreak of confirmed cases of Covid-19. Letters have been issued to affected families and all necessary action has been taken at the setting in line with Health Protection Team advice and guidance.

The Highland Council continues to work in close partnership with NHS Highland’s Health Protection Team.

Dr Tim Allison, Director of Public Health with NHS Highland, said: “We are aware of the Covid-19 outbreak at Avoch Primary School.  Positive cases can cause some local anxiety in the community. Please be reassured that our Health Protection Team is working closely with colleagues within the Highland Council and the primary school to continually monitor the situation.

“We must follow the national guidance which includes NHS Scotland’s Test and Protect strategy.

“Test and Protect is a vital part of how we will prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the community. If you have symptoms even if they are mild, we’re asking you to self-isolate, get tested and share details of those you’ve come into close contact with.  If you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive and are asked to self-isolate by the NHS, it’s important to follow that advice.

“Continue to follow guidance wear face coverings, avoid crowded places, clean your hands regularly, physical distance, book a PCR test if you have even mild symptoms.  Taking these steps will help in keeping the virus under control.”

No one should attend school if they are experiencing symptoms. COVID-19 symptoms are typically:

  • A new continuous cough
  • High temperature or fever
  • Loss or change in taste or smell

People with COVID-19 can present with a wide range of symptoms including headache, sore muscles and joints and tiredness, sore throat, cold like symptoms and diarrhoea and vomiting. Anyone that becomes unwell should isolate immediately and seek a PCR test.
