The Reading of The Proclamation of Accession for the Sheriffdom of Grampian, Highland and Islands

The proclamation of Accession of His Majesty King Charles III as Monarch will be read by Derek Pyle, Sheriff Principal of Grampian, Highland and Islands outside Inverness Town House on Sunday 11 September at 1pm.

The Convener of The Highland Council, Councillor Bill Lobban said: “It is an exceptional honour for such an historic occasion to be held in the Highlands. I invite members of the public to attend the proclamation ceremonies being held in Inverness and across the Highlands.”

Following the regional ceremony in Inverness, the proclamation will then be read locally by Highland Council Civic Heads or Area Chairs at 1.30pm on Sunday 11 September at the following locations:

  • Dingwall Town Hall
  • Dornoch Cathedral Green
  • Fort William Parade
  • Kingussie - Gynack Gardens - Garden of Remembrance
  • Nairn Garden of Remembrance, Cawdor Road
  • Portree - Somerled Square
  • Wick Market Cross

Members of the public are invited to attend any of these events.

In line with the Royal protocol, the Council has arranged for Union flags to be flown at full mast from 11am onwards today (Saturday 10 September), to mark the Accession of His Majesty King Charles III, and they will be lowered to half-mast from 1.30pm onwards on Sunday 11 September for the period of mourning.

Traffic Control arrangements in Inverness:

Various traffic control measures are to be implemented on the streets around Inverness Town House on Sunday during the building and dismantling of a stage/podium from which the public proclamation will be read.
