Highland Council Winter Road Conditions report - Friday 27 January 2023

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Friday 27 January 2023 are as follows:

Ross & Cromarty (East) (08:49): Mixture of dry and damp road with touches of frost on untreated surfaces. No issues.  

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh (as at 07:12): Temperatures higher than forecasted. Checks ongoing. Winter action will be taken where needed. No overnight issues reported.

Caithness (as at 08:13): Temperatures slightly higher than forecast. A mix of dry and damp roads with the odd frost patch inland. Priority 1 weekend routes are being treated as a precaution. No known overnight issues to report.

Badenoch and Strathspey: No issues reported.       

Nairn: No issues reported.

Inverness (as at 06:58): Cold road temperatures this morning on higher routes. Roads mainly dry. Treating selected high roads. No known issues.     

Sutherland (as at 08:51): A frost this morning with a slight sparkle affecting parts of most primary routes. Some very isolated icy patches on lower priority routes. Light treatment ongoing in line with policy. The A838 remains closed between Lairg and Laxford Bridge to allow for the recovery of a fuel tanker lorry.    

Skye and Raasay: No issues reported.
