Civic return to the Old Town Hall, Thurso

Highland Councillors returned to their civic home in Thurso earlier this week after a two year absence.

The Ward Members for the three Caithness wards – Wick, Thurso and Landward Caithness – met on Monday at Caithness Horizons, Old Town Hall.

Councillor David Flear, who chaired the last council meeting at the Town Hall as Convener of the former Area Committee, was in the chair again for Monday’s joint ward business meeting at Caithness Horizons.

Together with Councillor John Rosie, Thurso, a former Area Committee Chairman, he handed over the official Coat of Arms for Thurso to Paul Cariss, Chairman of Caithness Horizons, for prominent display within the new complex.

Councillors used to meet regularly at Thurso Town Hall but moved out when work began on the £4.2 refurbishment of the premises.

They will now meet their monthly, alternating with fortnightly meetings at the Town Hall, Wick.

The revamped Town Hall opened on 1 December, last year, under the new identity of Caithness Horizons.  Since re-opening the facility has attracted more than 17,000 visitors.

Councillors are impressed with the facelift given to the historic premises and are delighted with usage. T

The premises are open between 10 am – 8 pm Monday – Saturday and between 11 am – 4 pm on a Sunday.
