The Highland Council supports Ministerial visit to the Port of Ardersier

Councillor Drew Hendry, Leader of The Highland Council, and Jimmy Gray, convener, this week accompanied John Swinney MSP, the Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth on a visit to the 340-acre Port of Ardersier, which is earmarked for future development as a manufacturing base for the offshore wind sector.

The visit was hosted by Stephen Gobbi, Chief Executive, Port of Ardersier, accompanied by Colin Whittle, chairman and other board members.

HIE was also represented by its Chairman, Lorne Crerar. The delegation also included senior officials from The Highland Council, HIE, Scottish Enterprise and Skills Development Scotland.

The Port of Ardersier is a prime site in Scotland for the manufacture of components for the offshore wind sector with its 1000m quayside and access to deep water in the Moray Firth. The Minister was able to see the scale of the site and to discuss the opportunities for bringing significant new employment to the Highlands
