Third event staged for Inverness West consultations

A third exhibition/drop-in session is to be held in Inverness to display plans for the detailed design of the £27.2 million Inverness West Link Road as well as the Draft Development Brief for the Torvean/Ness-side areas of Inverness.

It will take place at the Eastgate Centre, Inverness, at its entrance from Falcon Square between 10 am and 3 pm on Saturday 4 May.

Similar events have already been held at Kinmylies Church and at Culduthel Christian Centre on 17/18 April when more than 400 people turned out.
The Council is currently consulting with the public over the route of the Inverness West Link and the Draft Development Brief from Torvean/Ness-side.  The deadline for comments is Friday 31 May.

It is planned that the final road scheme will be taken to The Highland Council’s City of Inverness Area Committee on Monday 12 August for approval to enable submission of the planning application and road traffic orders by late August.
This video simulation shows the route,  which follows a sweeping alignment along the river bank from Dores Road Roundabout to cross the River Ness at the Precast Yard/Weir.  Thereafter the link road will follow the toe of the Caledonian Canal embankment to a tandem canal bridge arrangement at Tomnahurich.

The development brief sets out plans to create a major sports/recreational hub at Torvean, the relocation of Torvean Golf Club, the opportunity for a major marina at the canal and almost 2,000 new homes, including 300 affordable homes.

The consultation process on this document runs from 16th April 2013 – 31st May 2013.  During this time the Council is inviting comments on the proposals set out within the Development Brief.  In particular we ask for your views on the potential development opportunities, suggested land uses, and the layout and design of these future communities.

An additional public consultation drop-in exhibition has been arranged for Inverness city centre.  People are encouraged to come along to view and discuss the proposals set out in the brief.  This will be held at the Eastgate Centre between 10am and 3pm on Saturday 4th May.

Previous drop-in exhibitions were held between 10am and 8pm on:

• 17th April at Kinmylies Church; and
• 18th April at Culduthel Christian Centre.
