Folk group Clann Thròndairnis from Staffin Primary on the Isle of Skye have won top prize in the folk group competition for under 13 year olds at the Royal National Mod in Inverness.

Performing were Megan MacIver, Jonathan Beaton, Isla MacLeod and Erin Gillies. A group from the school previously won the same competition at the 2012 Mòd held in Dunoon.

For the sixth year running The Highland Council has sponsored this competition in partnership with Fujitsu who have provided a £500 prize voucher for the winning group.

Abby Wilson, Community Benefits Manager with Fujitsu said: “Fujitsu is delighted to encourage the participation of young people at all National Mòds by co-sponsoring the under 13’s Folk Group Competition. Well done to Staffin Primary School and I wish all the schools groups, and individuals competing over the coming week the best of luck.”

Councillor Hamish Fraser, Chair of the Highland Council’s Gaelic Implementation Group, said: “I had the honor of presenting the winning trophy in this excellent competition and it was a particular delight to hand it over to Clann Thròndairnis from Skye. This is the second time the school has won this trophy so staff, pupils and parents should be really congratulated for their hard work. The standard gets better each year and all the young people taking part should feel very proud of their performances.  I’ve every confidence that they will all progress and become successful ambassadors for Gaelic in the future.”
