New permanent Head Teacher appointed at Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis
The Highland Council has appointed Mrs Barbara Smith as Permanent Head Teacher at Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis, the city’s Gaelic Primary School.
Mrs Smith is a fluent Gaelic speaker and a former pupil of Inverness Royal Academy. She currently teaches in Broadford Primary School on Skye and has previously been Acting Head Teacher at Bun-Sgoil Shlèite, the Gaelic Primary School in Sleat, on Skye. She is also a former Royal National Mod Gold Medallist.
Bill Alexander, Highland Council’s Director of Care and Learning welcomed the appointment, he said: “I am delighted that we have been successful in appointing a permanent Head Teacher for Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis and I wish Mrs Smith every success in her new appointment.”
“I am sure that this news will be warmly welcomed by the School’s Parent Council and by the wider community in Inverness. I would also like to thank Mrs Annie MacPhee for her role as Acting Head Teacher at the school since last August.”
Mrs Smith said: “I feel thrilled and honoured to have been given the opportunity to lead the flagship school for Gaelic Medium Education in the Highlands and I am looking forward to working with the pupils, staff, parents and wider school community.”
Mrs Smith will take up post at the start of the 2015-16 school session in August.
