Smithton Road, Inverness – Footway Improvement Works

The Highland Council is preparing to carry out footway improvement works on the North side of Smithton Road in Inverness. The area is from the junction at Caulfield Road North to Barnchurch Road.

The works will include widening and extending of the footway, surfacing, installation of drop kerbs, tactile paving and new lighting columns.

The bus layby on the North side of Smithton Road, near Cranmore Drive will be repositioned slightly further to the East to accommodate footway widening and a temporary bus stop will be setup for the duration of works.

Works will start around 15 September 2025 and are scheduled for approximately 12 weeks.  The on-site contractor will carry out traffic management and will ensure that disruption to footway and road users is kept to a minimum.
