More young people more active in Malawi

Nairn Academy Sports Leaders aim to make Malawian young people more active by introducing them to the one day Sports Leader Award. This will be the first time this course has been introduced in Malawi.

During their visit in June, three of the group, Kirsty Ewen, Dayne McDonald and Judith MacLeod, who are qualified Community Sports Leaders will assist in delivering the Day Certificate In Sports Leadership along with Active Schools Co-ordinator, Elizabeth McDonald and the other young people from Nairn. It is hoped that delivering this accredited course in Malawi will give the Malawian youngsters a recognised qualification and the confidence to organise their own sporting activities and events.

The Sports Leader Award is supported by the Active Schools programme in partnership with Coaching Highland. Nairn’s young people have been delighted with the support they have received from Coaching Highland in registering the course with the Sports Leaders UK and for agreeing to pay the registration fee for the Malawians. This will mean that our visit will leave a legacy for around 100 Malawians youngsters.

The Nairn pupils leave for Malawi on 23rd June for an 18 day visit that will include working with their Malawian counterparts at Chipasula Community Day School in Lilongwe to organise a Sports Festival and Health Fair. They will also be visiting local primary schools and orphanages to work with the young people there.
