Protecting ancient monuments
Some monuments in Scotland are protected because they are of national importance. These are called scheduled monuments.
What you need to do
You must get permission before doing any work on a scheduled monument. This is called Scheduled Monument Consent.
Who gives consent
Historic Environment Scotland decides if a monument should be scheduled. They also handle all applications for Scheduled Monument Consent.
