Ticks and Lyme disease

Enjoy the Highlands Safely

The Scottish Highlands are a fantastic place to explore the outdoors - but while you're enjoying nature, it's important to be aware of ticks and how to protect yourself.

What are ticks?

Ticks are tiny, spider-like creatures that feed on the blood of animals such as deer, foxes, and rabbits. Occasionally, they can bite humans, too.

Some ticks carry bacteria that cause Lyme disease, a serious illness that can lead to long-term health problems if not treated early.

The risk of infection is low, but awareness and prevention are key.
