School description

St Duthus Special School caters for pupils with severe, complex and profound Additional Support Needs from a large catchment area (approximately from Alness to Golspie and Lairg). The current roll is 18 pupils, aged 3-18. The school is organised in three classes, each staffed by a teacher and 3-4 learning support auxiliaries. We work closely with local mainstream schools in our catchment area depending on the possibilities for individual pupils. Our pupils join mainstream classes whenever possible for part of the time; sometimes pupils from main stream schools join us for certain activities. Visiting specialists include: Speech and Language Therapist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Social Work, Community Paediatrician, School Nurse etc. The school is very well supported by the local community.
