The Highland Council and NHS Highland have adopted a partnership approach to the provision of Equal Opportunities and Diversity training.

The Highland Council and NHS Highland have adopted a partnership approach to the provision of Equal Opportunities and Diversity training. This 1 day course focuses on raising awareness and understanding of Equal Opportunities and Diversity in employment and in delivering public services.

The course is available to all Highland Council and NHS Highland employees and Elected members.

This course is delivered in an informal workshop style that will encourage the discussion and exploration of issues and attitudes relating to equal opportunities and diversity. A variety of media will be used including video group work and participation. Also available for teams (6+ Staff) - Team Briefings in Equalities and Diversity and there is more training available through our on-line e-learning package (eg Understanding Disability and Cultural Awareness in the Workplace).

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Recognise key equal opportunities legislation and illustrate the key components of the Equality Act 2010
  • Describe the terms 'equality' and 'diversity' and discuss the positive aspects of each
  • Explain how stereotypes and prejudice can lead to discrimination
  • Show concern for inequality within our society and the impact of it
  • Classify human rights and types of discrimination
  • Demonstrate how to promote human rights and equal opportunities in your role
  • Use resources to further develop learning and the application of equal opportunities policy
