A number of families recently took part in an enjoyable Gaelic Family Learning Weekend at Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar (Lochaber Gaelic School).

The aim of the family learning weekend was to support Gaelic Medium parents to learn Gaelic, and also enable Gaelic speaking children from other areas to meet up and learn new activities within a Gaelic immersion environment.

The parents received language tuition from experienced tutors, Mr Alec (Valtos) MacDonald and Mr Peter Murray, while their children who currently attend pre-school and primary school took part in a range of sports, music and arts activities at the school.

Families from out with the Fort William area including Acharacle and Drumnadrochit, also took part in the event.

Head Teacher Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar, Mr John Joseph MacNeil said: “Events such as these provide a real opportunity for parents to learn Gaelic, visit the school and also see their children use Gaelic in an informal setting whilst also learning and taking part in sports and arts activities.”

The event was organised by the school Parent Council with support from the Highland Council Gaelic Team.
