What you would like to see incorporated in your active city?
The Highland Council has been shortlisted to enter this year's Sustrans Community Links PLUS funding bid with the long term aim of creating an active city fit for the future: promoting active travel, improving community health and reducing congestion.
This year's bid contains exciting proposals to transform a key corridor for active, healthy travel on foot and cycle by people of all ages and abilities, just as people do in the Netherlands.
The eventual city-wide network, built to Dutch inspired standards, means people will feel safe and invited to walk and cycle, producing major benefits for health and wellbeing, as well as enabling more children to travel independently and families to enjoy active travel to and from the city centre.
Engaging with the public and media is an important part of the bid. The Council and Dutch transport consultants Witteveen+Bos are running an exhibition and workshops this week to seek views from the public and businesses in the city on the initial concepts, design ideas and what you would like to see incorporated in your active city.
The team will be based in the historic Victorian Market Tuesday, 11th April and Wednesday, 12th April from 11.00am until 4.00pm. Come and learn more and contribute your ideas and thoughts. Alternatively, information and opportunities to comment are available online at:
