Capital success for City of Inverness Pipe Band

Consolidating their achievements, the City of Inverness Pipe Band lifted two trophies yesterday (Sunday 18th June) at the Edinburgh Pipe Band Championships held in West Princes Street Gardens.

Inverness were awarded the Championship’s prestigious Thomas Grotrian Trophy for overall best Marching and Discipline and the Chairman John B. Hughes Cup for 2nd place in the Grade 3 competition.

Provost and Leader of Inverness and Area, Cllr Helen Carmichael congratulated City of Inverness Pipe Band, she said: “I am delighted to hear of City of Inverness Pipe Band’s success at the Edinburgh Championship’s yesterday. With a growing membership, they are continuing to blaze a trail for the name of Inverness on the piping circuit. I wish them all the best of luck for the European Championships at Forres next weekend.”

City of Inverness Pipe Band in West Princes Street Gardens at the foot of Edinburgh Castle for the Edinburgh Pipe Band Championships.

Organised by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Lothian and Borders Branch – this was City of Inverness pipe Band’s first time performing at the competition in the Capital city.

CIPB Pipe Major Scott Taylor said: “Although the temperature was in the high 20’s our pipers and drummers kept their cool and gave a piping hot performance.

“We are very proud to once again put Inverness firmly on the winning podium of the competitive pipes and drums circuit. We are looking forward to the European Pipe Band Championships in Forres next weekend on the 24th June.”
