Prospective candidates for Tain & Easter Ross by-election invited to come forward for awareness briefing

The Highland Council is inviting prospective candidates and agents for the Tain and Easter Ross by-election to register their interest in attending a pre-nomination briefing.

If there is enough interest a briefing session outlining the roles and responsibilities of a Highland Councillor will be held in the Ward during the week of 7 August.

Any candidates thinking of standing or may be interested in finding out further information before making a decision are asked to contact elections@highland.gov.uk

Returning Officer, The Chief Executive of The Highland Council, Steve Barron said: “Before the Council Elections in May this year we held a number of briefing sessions for prospective candidates covering the nomination procedure, the election timetable, the issuing of poll cards, postal ballot packs, candidate’s spending limits, and details on what is involved in the role of a councillor. Feedback from the briefings was very positive so I would encourage anyone thinking of putting themselves forward for the Tain and Easter Ross By-election to get in touch by Friday 4 August.”

The by-election will take place following the resignation of Jamie Stone MP. The notice of election will be published on Thursday 10 August and prospective candidates will have until 4pm on Monday 28 August to submit their papers. It the seat is contested polling will take place on Thursday 28 September.
