Sutherland members offer to work with Openreach to find solutions

Members of Sutherland County Committee have expressed their concern about the delays in the roll out of superfast broadband in remote parts of the Highlands.

Mr Bruce McClory, Senior Operations Manager from BT Openreach attended the meeting to hear concerns and provide an update.

Chair of Sutherland County Committee, Councillor Linda Munro, said: “I recognise the difficulties in costs and distances faced by Openreach, but we need to be given an immediate, medium and  long-term plan for resolving problems and improving coverage. Apart from personal wishes of our communities, without fundamental access to effective broadband connectivity, this is seriously restricting our business and economy.”

Councillor Munro invited Openreach to attend the Sutherland County Committee to work with local people and partners on connectivity issues.

She added: “We want to build real relationships with BT and Openreach and to understand their plans and discuss alternative solutions, looking at other ways, not just fibre.”
