The school has been busy recording their CD which will be officially on sale on Friday 1st December.  The project, which was partially funded by Bòrd na Gàidhlig, was part of an interdisciplinary learning and enterprise project to raise money for school funds but also releases some new Gaelic Christmas material for listeners far and wide.

Councillor Alister Mackinnon, Chair of The Highland Council’s Corporate Resources Committee and Chair of the Gaelic Strategy and Implementation Group welcomed the launch of Lochaber Gaelic Primary School’s Gaelic Christmas CD, he said: “What a great initiative for pupils at Lochaber Gaelic School to be involved in. They have been given a great opportunity to learn through music and business enterprise while providing a fabulous festive stocking filler for family and friends across the globe. Well done to all the staff and pupils involved in this production.”

The CD includes a new arrangement of ‘Silent Night’ composed by Peter MacPherson, a new translation of ‘O Holy Night’ translated by Flora MacPhail and an Irish version of the well-known hymn ‘Away in a Manger’.

Children from across the school have recorded a range of tracks.  The CD also includes tracks by award winning duo Iain MacFarlane and Ingrid Henderson, Gold Medal Winner and Singer - Rachel Walker, and Traditional Gold Medal Winner and Lochaber Gaelic School Head Teacher, John Joe MacNeil.

The CD was recorded at Old Laundry Productions in Glenfinnan.  Hector MacInnes engineered the CD which was produced by Ingrid Henderson.

John Joe MacNeil, Head Teacher said: “This has been an exceptional experience for our children to be involved in, singing and seeing the recording and production process of making a CD.  I would like to express my thanks to all our children for singing so beautifully.  I would also like to thank all members of the staff team, parents and school community.  The CD would not have been possible if it were not for the funding support of Bòrd na Gàidhlig as well as the fantastic support of Old Laundry Productions.”

Ingrid Henderson, Musical Director and Producer of the CD added: “This has been a fantastic opportunity to help support the school and to produce a quality music resource that the school community and pupils can all be very proud of."
