Charity Jingle Jog cancelled due to severe weather

Announcing the cancellation of the Jingle Jog a spokesperson speaking jointly on behalf of The Highland Council and High Life Highland said, “A decision has been taken to cancel the Jingle Jog following a site visit to the West Link on Saturday afternoon by those involved in the organisation of the charity fundraiser.

“We have already had a heavy snow fall in the area with more expected later this evening further exacerbated by dropping temperatures overnight. For this reason, we had no alternative but to cancel the event for the safety of all concerned.

The spokesperson went on, “A substantial amount of time has been invested into the Jingle Jog event by HLH, The Highland Council, Inverness Culloden Rotary and MFR Cash for Kids and the decision to cancel has not been taken easily; however with over 500 participants in the event we have to consider not only the safety of those taking part in the actual event but also getting to the venue early tomorrow morning.

The joint spokesperson concluded, “We are obviously disappointed that the weather has impacted on the weekend’s events – but have decided to cancel the event at this stage in order to give as much notice as possible and prevent participants unnecessarily travelling to Canal Park in Inverness.

“Those scheduled to take part in the Jingle Jog this weekend will be contacted by the organisers.”

The High Life Highland Jingle Jog scheduled to take place on Sunday 10th December as a precursor to the official opening of the West Link Road (phase one) on Monday 11th December. The event was raising funds to be split between MFR Cash for Kids and Inverness Culloden Rotary Club charity causes.

The West Link will open at noon on Monday 11 December as planned.

The opening ceremony will take place at 09:30am Monday as planned.
