SGN (gas) roadworks - Inverness Old Perth Road

Issued by SGN:

Start date: 5 March 2018
Approximate duration: 4 weeks

As part of a wider project in the area, SGN will shortly be starting work to upgrade their gas network in Old Perth Road, Inverness.

This essential work involves the replacement of old metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure SGN continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.

So that SGN can minimise disruption, they have carefully consulted and planned our works in partnership with the Highland Council Roads Authority. Our work will begin on Monday 5 March and is expected to last for around four weeks. Their work in Old Perth Road will be carried out near to its junction with Culcabock Avenue, to its junction with Raigmore Hospital.

To ensure everyone’s safety, temporary traffic lights will be in place around the work area.

SGN will be replacing the existing traffic lights at Raigmore Hospital with temporary lights, but these will be manually controlled during peak times to ensure continual traffic flow.

The pedestrian crossing at Raigmore Hospital will also be temporarily closed, however alternative crossings are available. The access road from Old Perth Road to Drakies Housing Estate at the Raimore Motel will be closed to traffic. Access for residents and deliveries will be maintained via Old Perth Road Drumossie Ave and Drakies Ave.

SGN understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks and they’ll be working seven days a week to complete this project as quickly as possible. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
