Highland Council winter road condition and school closure report for Monday 5 March 2018
There is still a yellow weather warning in place until tomorrow for snow and ice across areas of the Highlands
Maps of the Council’s gritting routes by priority and policy are available online at www.highland.gov.uk/gritting
The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.
Road condition reports by The Highland Council’s Community Services for Monday 5 March 2018 are as follows:
Caithness and North Sutherland: A dusting of snow on some higher routes which were bladed as necessary. All other routes are damp/wet and all routes treated accordingly. No issues to report. As at 10:00
South Sutherland: The B9176 Struie Hill road remains closed. The A837 Rosehall - Ledmore Junction road reopened at 07.30 hrs and is passable with care. All other primary routes are being patrolled and treated as necessary. Some minor routes are still affected by snow drifts and these are currently being cleared. As at 09:16
Ross and Cromarty: 2 - 4 inches of fresh snow on higher routes, all being bladed and treated as necessary. Lower ground, wet roads with slush in sections, all priority 1 and 2 routes checked and no issues reported. Treatment ongoing on other routes across the area. A835 Ullapool - Ledmore remains open and work to open up the road to full width is ongoing. As at 10:07
Lochaber: No action required. As at 08:31
Highland has the longest road network of any council in Scotland and it is not possible to treat every road at the same time. A priority system is applied to treat the areas in greatest need first.
Trunk roads are gritted by BEAR Scotland (North West) for Transport Scotland.
