Only the best is good enough for Highland Young Musicians

Around 250 young musicians from across the Highlands have been busy rehearsing for their unique showcase Concerts Festival which will feature the eight diverse groups working under the umbrella of Highland Young Musicians.

Held in the Osprey Arena at MacDonald Aviemore Resort on Saturday 17th March, the first of the days concerts (at 3pm) will feature ‘snas; Còisir G (with special guests Calum Alex McMillan and Innes White) and Highland Regional Youth Orchestra with Highland Youth Choir and guests Dingwall Choral Society performing John Rutter’s ‘Sprig of Thyme’.

The music continues with concert 2 at 6.30pm with Highland Youth String Orchestra; Highland Pulse; Highland Youth Big Band and Highland Schools Wind Band (whose recent CD ‘Journeys’ will also be available to purchase).

The Highland Council’s Music Development Officer, Norman Bolton said: “This unique festival is something we should be very proud of in Highland. It really offers something for everyone and can’t fail to prove that youth music-making in our area is flourishing. Following auditions, these groups are populated by some of Highland’s most talented young musicians from primary and secondary schools across the area and members range in ages from 11 years up to 17. The groups give young players experience of performing live at the highest standards and a chance to develop their skills beyond any opportunity available in individual schools. It is a testament to the standards of these groups that external organisations and musicians are more than happy to collaborate with us. I hope as many people as possible take this opportunity to come and enjoy some terrific music and enjoy the relaxed and accessible atmosphere of the event.”

The festival is generously sponsored by Macdonald Aviemore Resort and Friends of Highland Young Musicians.  Concert tickets can be booked in advance (at a discounted cost) at: www.thelittleboxoffice.com/hym  or on the day at the door (surcharge applied).  Food and refreshments will be available in the venue during the event.
