Launch of Highland Child Protection Toolkit for Community Groups

The Highland Child Protection Committee will launch a Child Protection Toolkit for Community Groups during an event to be held in Inverness next week.

Anyone in Highland providing activities for children, young people and families in either a paid or voluntary capacity is invited to come along to the Rugby Club at Canal Park on Wednesday 21 March between 4-6pm. Attendees will receive a copy of the toolkit and have an opportunity to find out more about child protection from partners in High Life Highland and Keeping Children Safe.

Third sector organisations, sports clubs, youth and community groups all have a responsibility for child protection and any group or individual using Highland Council or High Life Highland premises for activities must have a child protection policy in place. This toolkit has been developed to provide updated guidance and a range of tools to assist groups in developing their policy and understand responsibilities for responding to any concerns about children.

Detective Chief Inspector Vince McLaughlin, Chair of the Highland Child Protection Committee hopes people take the opportunity to come along to the free event. He said: “Child protection is everyone’s responsibility and it is crucial that organisations have effective and proportionate procedures in place. We appreciate the contributions third sector and community groups make in Highland communities and hope this toolkit provides practical guidance to support safe practice in child protection.”

The launch event is free but anyone coming along is asked to book a place online at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/free-child-protection-event-tickets-43966471901 or by telephone on 01463 222569.
