Council’s progress on Gaelic and cultural developments commended
The work of Highland Council’s Gaelic Team and the significant Gaelic and cultural developments they are taking forward was commended by Members of The Highland Council’s Corporate Resources Committee today (24 May 2018).
Cllr Alister Mackinnon, Chair of the Corporate Resources Committee and the Council’s Gaelic Implementation Group said: “I am very pleased at the progress and range of our Gaelic developments at Highland Council which is extremely encouraging for our commitment to the promotion of the language and culture.
“I would like to highlight the great news that our bid to host the Celtic Media Festival has been successful. Bringing this prestigious festival to Aviemore is excellent news for our region and for our commitment to the Gaelic Language. It was an honour to be at this year’s festival in Llanelli to hear the intimation of our success – well done and thanks to our team for all the work devoted to this bid.
“We are also pleased to hear that our third Gaelic Language Plan has been well received by Bòrd na Gàidhlig and we look forward to continuing to work closely with that agency to promote the language in education and through cultural activities across Highland.
“It is also very encouraging to note that our council has submitted 12 projects for funding support from Bòrd na Gàidhlig as part of its Gaelic Language Act initiatives fund – an impressively varied range of projects reflecting the strength of Gaelic across Highland. I am very grateful to our team for all their efforts on this sizeable task. The outcome of our bids will be known at the beginning of July.

- Program Taic Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh (BSGP)
- Dealbh Sgìre a’ Phluic (Plockton Reflections)
- Co-labhairt Òigridh (Youth Conference)
- Gàidhlig Airson Teaghlaich (Family Learning)
- Am Blàran Odhar (Bettyhill)
- Iomadach Àite-Iomadach Sgeulachd (Many Stories, Many Places)
- Briathran Bhàideanach (Badenoch Film Project)
