Location map of Newhall Bridge closure

Motorists and public transport users are being advised of bridge works at Newhall, on The Black Isle, that will begin on Saturday 11th August 2018. The Highland Council advises that a temporary road closure will apply to all road users at this location, including pedestrians.

The road will be closed on Saturday 11th August at 00:01 hrs and is expected to re-open on Sunday 19th August at  23:59 hrs.

The works are in place to enable the temporary bridge to be replaced by a permanent structure.

To avoid the road closure an alternative route is available via the B9160 Oldham - Mounthigh - Balblair Road - the C1031 Blackstand - Killen - Belmuduthy Road - the C1027 Munlochy - Mounteagle - Culbokie Road - and the B9169 Muir of Ord - Leanaig - Culbokie - Shoreton Road.

Signage will advise road users of the temporary restriction and of the alternative route.

The closure will also affect bus users who intend to travel on Service 405 Cromarty - Dingwall via Culbokie (operated by D&E Coaches) between Monday 13th and Friday 17th August 2018.

On all journeys between Cromarty and Dingwall via Culbokie, Service 405 will operate only between Balblair and Dingwall for the duration of the road closure. On all journeys between Cromarty and Dingwall via Rosemarkie and Fortrose, a normal service will operate.

Passengers who normally travel on the 07:27 Cromarty to Dingwall service are advised to do the following:

  • Take the Stagecoach Service 26U departing Cromarty at 07:11 as far as Munlochy (normal Stagecoach fares will apply.)
  • Highland Council has arranged for an 8 seater taxi to transfer passengers from Munlochy to Dingwall – There will be no charge for the taxi journey.

Passengers who normally travel on the 17:45 Dingwall to Cromarty service are advised to do the following:

  • A taxi will depart the Dingwall Tesco bus stop at 17:45 and travel to Munlochy to meet the Stagecoach service 26C due in Munlochy at 18:09. Again there will be no charge payable for the taxi journey.
  • Passengers will then transfer on to the Stagecoach bus to Cromarty where normal Stagecoach fares will apply.

Please note that no alternatives are being provided for the middle of the day journeys from Dingwall to Cromarty via Culbokie.
