Inverness locals urged to have say on A82 Bear Scotland consultation

The Provost and Depute Provost of Inverness are urging local people to attend a Bear Scotland public consultation event on Thursday 30 August between 11am and 7pm at the Cameron Youth Centre, Inverness.

At the event - which is being organised by Bear Scotland  – proposed outline plans will be displayed for improved walking and cycling facilities on the A82 between Longman roundabout and Tomnahurich Swing Bridge.

Provost and Leader of Inverness Cllr Helen Carmichael said: “The Highland Council is very supportive of these proposals being put forward by Bear Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland which is the Scottish Government’s trunk road agency. Inverness Councillors were recently briefed by Transport Scotland on the proposals which have been developed to improve road safety and support active travel in the city and Councillors have provided their feedback.”

Depute Provost of Inverness, Cllr Graham Ross added: “While these proposals directly affect the Inverness West, Central and Millburn Wards, on behalf of all Ward Members, I urge local people who not only live and work in these Wards to go along to the public consultation event on Thursday 30 August but I also urge all people who travel through these Wards to have their say. It is vitally important that local people and any other interested parties attend and find out how this may affect them and to have their say.”

Bear Scotland has issued information about the “Public Consultation Event to be held in Inverness” which outlines:

  • Improvement scheme being developed to improve active travel facilities on the A82 between Longman Roundabout and Tomnahurich Swing Bridge
  • Public consultation to take place in Cameron Youth Centre to share information about the project and to receive views from the local community

Plans for improved walking and cycling facilities on the A82 between Longman roundabout and Tomnahurich Swing Bridge have been developed to improve road safety and support active travel in Inverness. Proposals are also being developed to install a new footway/cycleway between Longman Roundabout and Telford Road Roundabout. This will improve facilities for residents and visitors who are walking and cycling through this part of the city.

Further proposals include the upgrading of the traffic signals at the Tomnahurich Street/Kenneth Street junction. This upgrade will see the introduction of pedestrian crossings to allow dedicated crossings on all sides of the junction. The new crossings at this location will greatly benefit the community who currently do not have a fully signalised crossing facility.
