Highland Council seeks views on its draft British Sign Language (BSL) Plan

The Scottish Government wants Scotland to be the best place in the world for British Sign Language (BSL) users to live, work and visit, and for BSL users to be involved in daily and public life.

The BSL (Scotland) Act 2015 requires public bodies across Scotland to publish plans every six years to show how they will promote and support BSL in their area.

Highland Council has worked with other local public bodies to gather views from local BSL users to inform and prepare a draft of their first BSL plan. The actions proposed in the draft plan aim to better promote the use and understanding of BSL in Highland and to improve access to information and services for local BSL users.

The Council is now asking for feedback from members of the public to inform their final plan.

We welcome comments from the public on this draft Plan. The draft Plan and consultation questions are published in BSL (video clips) and English. Both versions are on the Highland Council website at www.highland.gov.uk/BSLplan. You can comment in a number of ways:
