Sale of Tore history book funds new books for local school.

Sandra Bain, a local Tore resident and former pupil of Tore School, has made a huge contribution to the purchase of new reading and maths resources for Tore Primary.

Through the publication and sale of her book “Growing for the Future” – the story of Tore School spanning its 125 year history – Sandra raised over £2,200 which she donated to the school. A great many people from the Tore community provided information and photographs, which helped Sandra compile a detailed history of the small school.

This donation, along with money raised by Tore Primary School Parent Council, has enabled Head Teacher, Lynne Caddell to buy new books to the tune of £4,000.

Sandra’s book covers Tore School’s history, which opened on 27th October 1879 with 11 pupils. It also features the school’s  threatened closure in November 1997. Parents formed an Action Group to fight the closure which, after a six month campaign, resulted in the Education Committee voting against the closure of Tore and four other schools. The school roll presently stands at a buoyant 49 and remains at the heart of Tore community.

Rachel Di Mambro, Tore Primary Parent Council Chairperson said: “Tore Parent Council, PTA and school owe a huge debt of gratitude to Sandra for all her dedicated research and generosity.  The resources bought will benefit pupils present and future for many years to come.  We are indeed, as the school motto and book title states – Growing for the Future!”

Copies of the book are still available for £5.00 each and can be bought from Sandra Bain or Tore Primary School tel: (01463) 811481.
