Update on Kinloch Hourn landslip

Assessments have taken place today at the site of yesterdays landslip which saw approximately 9000T of soil and rock fall onto a public road which connects Loch Garry to Kinloch Hourn.

The slip took out the main overhead powerline so yesterday many communities across Skye were without power and both secondary and primary schools were closed. SSE worked to restore all power and today all schools were open as usual.

An SSE Geologist and a Highland Council Senior Engineer were on site this morning to carry out a geological assessment.

An Emergency Liaison Group Meeting has been held with relevant officers and representatives from Emergency Services. They have put in place a plan to deal with the effects of the landslip.

A contractor has been mobilised to carry out the necessary clear up works after a health and safety assessment of the hills stabilisationis completed.

The route will remain closed while work to clean up the debris takes place.
