Community Council Nominations Needed

Residents of both Conon Bridge and Maryburgh have taken swift action to re-establish a Community Council to give their respective communities a voice.

Following the recent dissolution of both Community Councils when too few nominations were received to elect a new Community Council for each of the villages, over 40 residents in both Maryburgh and Conon have put their names to public petitions to call for their re-establishment.

The Highland Council will now publish a Notice of Election for each of the communities on the 4th January 2008 and following this, nomination papers will be available for each community until 5.00 pm on Tuesday 14th January 2008.

If sufficient nominations (more than 10 for Maryburgh and more than 12 for Conon Bridge) are received, then a postal ballot will be held with the result declared on Friday 15th February 2008.
