Second year of Culture Days at Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh

Skilled dry stone dyker, Seumas Campbell, from Uig on the Isle of Skye, demonstrated the skills of stone masonry.

Làithean Cultair (Culture Days) were organised by Highland Council’s Gaelic Team and Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh.

This is the second year that established actors, authors, dancers, story tellers, artists, sports leaders, singers and musicians in the national Gaelic and cultural sector took part and lead the Làithean Cultair sessions. This year 3 pupils who attended Gaelic Medium Education and who are currently pupils at Portree High Schools were tutors at the event.

Head Teacher Mrs Flora Guidi, said: “The Làithean Cultair were a huge success which built on last years’ inaugural event.

“The Làithean Cultair held in Bùn Sgoil Ghàidhlig Port Rìgh assists the school to embed and develops the curriculum rational which is based on ‘Nì clachan beaga tric, càrn mòr uaireigin’.  We aim to have lessons and activities which assist in developing the young workforce agenda especially in relation to rural skills. Seumas Campbell, from Uig on the Isle of Skye, is a skilled dry stone dyker who demonstrated the skills of stone masonry.”  

All the sessions where held through the medium of Gaelic and the Làithean Cultiair were educational, informative and fun. The young people enjoyed participating and they also learnt from leading artists in their own specialist field.

Bun Sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh is creating and enriching the Gaelic learning and cultural opportunities for the young people as the pupils are totally immersed in Gaelic and events such as the Làithean Cultair supports their language learning, and enhances their cultural and educational experience.

Làithean Cultair, received financial support from Bòrd na Gàidhlig and was also supported by The Highland Council.

Dàrna Bliadhna de Làithean Cultair aig Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh

Chaidh Làithean Cultair a chur air dòigh le Sgioba na Gàidhlig aig Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd agus Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh.

’S e seo an dàrna bliadhna a tha cleasaichean, ùghdaran, dannsairean, sgeulaichean, luchd-ealain, ceannardan spòrs, seinneadairean agus luchd-ciùil ann an roinn nàiseanta na Gàidhlig agus a’ chultair air com-pàirt a ghabhail ann an seiseanan Làithean Cultair. Am-bliadhna bha triùir sgoilearan a bha an lùib Foghlam tron Ghàidhlig agus a tha an-dràsta nan sgoilearan aig Àrd-Sgoil Phort Rìgh nan oidean aig an tachartas.

Thuirt Ceannard na Sgoile, a’ Bh-uas Flòraidh Guidi: “Bha na Làithean Cultair fìor shoirbheachail agus a’ togail air tachartas tùsail na bliadhna an-uiridh.

“Tha na Làithean Cultair a tha air an cumail ann am Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh a’ cuideachadh na sgoile gus fàth-sgeul curraicealaim na sgoile a tha stèidhichte air ‘Nì clachan beaga tric, càrn mòr uaireigin’ a dhaingneachadh is a leasachadh. Tha sinn ag amas air leasanan is cleasan a bhith againn a chuidicheas ann a bhith a’ leasachadh clàr-gnothaich sgioba-obrach òg, gu h-àraid a thaobh sgilean dùthchail. Sheall an clachair Seumas Caimbeul dha na sgoilearan mar a dhèanadh iad gàrradh cloiche.”

Chaidh na seiseanan uile a chumail tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig agus bha na Làithean Cultair oideachail, fiosrachail agus spòrsail. Chòrd e ris a’ chloinn a bhith a’ gabhail com-pàirt agus dh’ionnsaich iad cuideachd bho luchd-ealain san raon shònraichte aca fhèin.

Tha Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh a’ cruthachadh is a’ neartachadh chothroman ionnsachaidh Gàidhlig is cultair do dhaoine òga agus tha na sgoilearan gu tur air am bogadh anns a’ Ghàidhlig. Tha tachartasan leithid Làithean Cultair a’ toirt taic a thaobh a bhith ag ionnsachadh a’ chànain, agus a’ neartachadh an cuid eòlais chultarail is foghlaim.

Fhuair Làithean Cultair taic ionmhasail bho Bhòrd na Gàidhlig agus fhuair iad taic cuideachd bho Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd.
