Saturday 22nd June 2019 was the Highland Celebration event for Highland Council’s newest DLITE PGDE graduates. Fifteen students have graduated from the Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Education DLITE (Distance Learning ITE) course, with ten of them present for the celebration.

Cllr John Finlayson, Chair of The Highland Council’s Care, Learning and Housing Committee said: “We welcome our new Highland graduates into the teaching profession and wish them all the best in their chosen careers.”

He added: “The Highland Council is working hard with its Academic Education Partners to provide opportunities for people to become teachers. Training for the next Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Education DLITE (Distance Learning ITE) starts in January 2020 and the deadline for applications is 23rd August 2019.”

The DLITE PGDE (Primary) is a part-time, distance learning, 18-month programme of study (120 credits), which includes 18 weeks of placement experience in Primary Schools within The Highland Council area. The course includes: E-Learning, face-to-face workshops (eight Saturday ‘Network’ days), self-study, collaborative group work, and professional practice on placement, to develop the academic, personal, and professional skills suitable for entry into the teaching profession.

The programme involves set courses which include:

  • Developing Professional Practice 1 & 2
  • Professional Studies
  • Learning & Teaching through the Primary Curriculum
  • Professional Enquiry.

… and school experience of 18 weeks full-time placement over the duration of the programme.

Applications are invited from appropriately qualified individuals living in The Highland Council area.

The DLITE PGDE (Secondary) is a part-time distance learning programme of study and applications are now being accepted. Details are available from the University of Aberdeen.
