Update on COVID-19 Business Grants awarded in Highland

The COVID-19 small business and self-catering grant scheme, set up to help companies stay in business during the coronavirus crisis, has now paid out over £63 million to 5,892 Highland businesses.

Councillor Trish Robertson, Chair of The Highland Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee said: “Our staff that are processing applications are still working very hard and thanks to their efforts and to applicants for providing the correct information when they apply, the percentage of grants processed is currently at 99%.

“The system is working well. The team can process new applications and approve payment within days of a business submitting a complete online application form as long as they provide all the requested information.

She added: “On the 26 May the figure was £56 million so it shows the increased level of support that is being currently provided in less than a month. As we move into Phase 2 the Council is committed to helping local businesses face the very real challenges of gradually starting up again.”

Next week the Council will be launching a guide for businesses to provide them with lots of advice and information surrounding the requirements and regulations that will help them with their plans to welcome back customers safely.
