More time to have your say on look of new flood wall for Caol and Lochyside

The Highland Council has asked the communities of Caol and Lochyside for help in deciding the colour and pattern of the flood wall which is to be constructed on the riverside at Lochyside and has extended the date of the consultation by a month to give people in the community more time to respond. 

The current Covid 19 restrictions mean that public meetings cannot take place but Caol Community Council is making sure the community has it say and has put information about the flood scheme at points across Caol and Lochyside as well as on its Facebook page.

The public is being asked to choose the pattern and colour of the kilometre long flood wall which is to be constructed along the River Lochy between Caol and Soldiers Bridge.

Details of the landscaping plan have also been published for comment.  The landscaping includes planting for the length of the scheme from its start at the Caledonian Canal, along the shore and the riverbank.  It also shows footpaths, sitting areas and a new play area on the shore.

Details of the options for the flood wall and the landscaping plans are currently being displayed in a shop window in Caol Shopping Centre and feedback forms can be picked up from and returned to the Community Cupboard.  People can also view all details on the Council’s website - www.highland.gov.uk/caolandlochysidefloodprotection

People have until 30 November to feed back their preferred options on the colour and pattern of the wall itself and any comments on the proposed landscaping.

Construction is scheduled to start in early 2021 and continue for up to 2 years.
