The Highland Council is launching a Common Good consultation giving the Nairn community until 12 February 2021 (longer than statutory 8 week period due to proximity of festive period and current Covid restrictions) to respond to a proposal to dispose, by sale, of Sandown Lands, Nairn.

At this time, the Council has received no offer for the land however, it is important to understand community views on the proposal.

This is because the sale of this land for development could potentially provide significant funds for Nairn Common Good Fund which would allow for investment projects in the town to be considered and existing Common Good assets to be developed as well as provide much needed housing stock, social, affordable and private, for the town.

The Council is keen to hear the community’s views on the proposal and all submissions will be given full regard before a decision on whether, and how, to proceed is made.

Any decision would be considered at a meeting of the Nairnshire Area Committee however, the final decision will be made at a full Council meeting. Consultation representations, responses and any final decision will be published on the Council website.

A consultation briefing outlining the background and key questions can be found on the Council’s website.

In terms of process, please refer to the guidance available.

Written responses to the consultation can be submitted either by email to commongood@highland.gov.uk or by post to Sara Murdoch, The Highland Council HQ, Glenurquhart Road, Inverness, IV3 5NX.
